Methodology & limits
Contract checks are the same for honest and dishonest pump.fun tokens. So RugBuster reads what the creator did with their own tokens, who bought in the first seconds, and the creator's past launches. Every answer shows its proof and says what it could not check.
The signals
What the creator holds
How much the creator bought when the token was made, and whether they sold it or moved it since. If they sold, we link the sale on Solscan.
Their past launches
Other tokens made by the same wallet, and what happened to them. Wallets that launch and sell again and again are on our serial launchers list.
Bots at launch
Wallets that bought in the first five seconds. Many bots at launch often means the buyers were planned, not organic.
Supply put into a pool
If the creator put their tokens into their own liquidity pool, we say so. It is not a sale, but the creator can pull it out again.
Who holds it, and how deep
Top holders, concentration and pool liquidity, from the chain and DexScreener.
Authorities
Whether mint and freeze authority are still active, using RugCheck data where available.
Three verdicts, always with proof
- GOOD no material risk signal in the data we could read.
- WARN something needs care, for example the creator put supply into their own pool.
- DANGER a strong signal, for example the creator already sold a material part of what they bought.
Each answer lists the checks that could not run. An answer with missing checks is not the same as a clean answer.
The study behind it
From May to August we followed 9,170 Solana launches for 30 days and read from the chain what each creator did. Among 2,785 creators who held 1% or more of supply, 89% sold all of it within the first hour, and about half within 30 seconds. Read the study.
Where the data comes from
Solana chain data through Helius RPC, plus RugCheck, DexScreener and pump.fun where available. RugBuster does not control these sources, and they can be late, incomplete or wrong.
What RugBuster cannot promise
- Scams change. New tricks, such as side wallets or bundled buys, can be missed until we add a check for them. We change our checks often for this reason.
- We do not check every new token on Solana. We check part of the new launches every day, plus every token someone asks about.
- We cannot check off-chain claims, the team, or what the creator will do next.
- A token can change after the check. Run it again before you buy, or tap Track in the app.
